So Ya Wanna be a Pornstar?

Have Ye What it Takes?

There seem to be more and more girls entering the tgirl porn industry every year. They all think they have what it takes, but in all honesty many of them don’t make it long term. In this entry we take a look at characteristics that make a porn girl a porn star and how you can work towards that status.

Models come in all varieties, however there are some things that will help you stand out and really become a “star”. If you don’t wanna be a “one and done” girl for a crappy solo video you’ll regret later in life, you should take a look at the top models. Models that appear on the cover of what seems to be every DVD, models that get re-booked regularly and consistently, they all have a majority of the things listed below in common.

  1. Their makeup is fantastic
  2. Their hair is fabulous
  3. They are physically in good shape
  4. Their attire is flattering for their body type
  5. They have a great smile
  6. They act in a professional manner

That’s it, that’s the winning formula. Below I’ll go over each item more in depth.

Makeup

Makeup is critical, porn is a fantasy and you need to play the part if you want the job. Most production companies will not have a makeup artist to assist
you with your makeup so you’re on your own typically. It is up to you to lean how to do your own makeup in a glamourish fashion that is flattering for your face.

You may think that you don’t need to wear concealer or foundation, but trust us, you do! Fake eyelashes? Yes please! It may seem intimidating at first but with a little YouTube you’ll figure it out. It also pays off if you can afford decent brands of makeup that will stay on through a rough hardcore scene.

A great way to learn how to do a specific look and to explore would be to book an appointment at your local MAC cosmetics store and have them do it for you, they can explain how to do what they’re doing and make recommendations to you for products.

With more and more production companies now experimenting with 4K video and high quality photos, those tiny defects absolutely will show up. So cover up buttercup!

Pro tip, only wear lip stainer that will NOT come off when sucking cock or kissing! Wearing gloss or lipstick that rubs off all over your shooting partners face is a very amateur move you can easily avoid!

Hair

Ok let’s face it, some of us have thicker/fuller hair and some of us have thinner/finer hair. There are pros and cons to each but your hair type may determine some hair styles you can successfully pull off. If you’re unsure, getting professional advice from a stylist about various styles that will work for your face shape can be a great starting point.

Crazy hair colors can be fun, but your skin tone can dictate what may or may not look good. If you have a very warm undertone to your skin and you dye your hair pink, you may look like a strawberry!

When you show up to a shoot it’s important that your hair is freshly washed and if possible freshly dyed (if you have dyed hair). Greasy oily hair is nasty and it falls flatter on the head looking dead and lifeless. Determining what shampoo and conditioner work for you is essential.

If you can’t curl your own hair, have someone who can try it on you. If it looks good, learn how and do it yourself. It adds volume and can look great depending on your face shape.

Being Physically Fit

It shouldn’t come as a shock to you, but top models are physically fit and in good shape. Their body weight is proportionate to their height and they exhibit feminine curves in all the right places. Taking hormone replacement therapy routinely is a no brainer when it comes to the curve department. Exercising and eating healthy can also go a long way. Sadly some of us are born with and some of us are born without certain physical features. But hey, there’s always surgery right? Fat transfers can relocate fat to more appropriate locations, breast augmentation can help balance out your upper body, and face surgeries can do wonders for you.

Proper Attire

Knowing what to wear and what not to wear can be difficult for the fashion inept. Most of us are a complete disaster on the fashion forefront the first year of our transition. Plaid skirts and striped thigh high socks only go so far. A lot of lingerie sets require breasts that are of ample size to fill them out. If you wear something that highlights that area and you are flat chested, your upper body may wind up looking big and unflattering.

Showing up to a shoot with old run down clothes or panties that look like they’ve been worn a year straight is never good. You don’t have to spend a fortune shopping at Victoria’s Secret, but you should try and put together some matching bra and panty sets that compliment your body and are clean and new in appearance.

“Do I have to wear heels?!” if the shoot calls for it then yes, yes you do. It’s porn, it’s modeling, you’re a woman and they bring out the femininity in you. Bring a couple pairs that look good and don’t take them off two seconds in to the video!

Learn to Smile

This may seem silly, but in my experience as a producer new girls have absolutely no idea how to smile. While practicing in the mirror might seem like a joke, it’s actually a good way to get better at this. If you have a line face in all of your photos you look miserable and it’s just awkward to browse through them. Smiling emits confidence, happiness, being content, and playfullness. All of these are positive attributes for your shoot. You don’t wanna look depressed or pissed off.

Professionalism

If a producer contacts you asking you about shooting, be professional and be courteous. Respond in a timely manner. Waiting several days, weeks, or months to respond shows that you couldn’t care less about the opportunity and that you are busy with other things. This is a sure fire way to get yourself on a “do not shoot” list at a company.

If you’re required to get your STD test done on your own, then it’s important to let the producer know if you will be able to have your results on time for the shoot before getting booked. If you say you got tested and you didn’t, then show up with no test claiming that it “hasn’t come in yet”. You will not get paid and you will never be rebooked. You just wasted your own time, the producers time, and the other models time!

Porn is like that group project you had as a kid in school. Everyone on set has to do their part to make it a good experience. Showing up under the influence of drugs or alcohol is not only a bad idea but it’s actually illegal and against the terms of the credit card processing companies for porn (they make a whole bunch of rules that we have to follow!). Texting and starring at your phone during production is just plain rude and it wastes everyone’s time, not to mention if it goes off during a shoot everyone will be mad at you. Turn the phone off, put it away, I promise you that you’ll survive just fine without it for a couple hours!

You may not think of it this way, but being a model means you’re running your own business and you need to treat it as such. If you’re a model, you’re an adult over 18 which means you’re old enough to have a bank account. You need a bank account for the times you are paid by check. The income you make is not taxed, it is your job to keep track of your income and pay taxes on it when applicable. It’s your job to keep receipts and write off business expenses when applicable. Find a tax person, they can help you out.
